Audience Feedback

This is the feedback I gained from my target audience who assessed my magazine and told me what they thought were the best parts as well as what I could improve. These results were from a survey I created on the website 'Survey Monkey' where my audience answered questions about my magazine. I then took the responses on board, carrying out any final improvements I could to make my magazine better plus creating this survey was also an opportunity to present what people thought about my product and how successful it might be.

Audience Data

These are the  results I collected from my audience survey about my music magazine. These results helped me while I was creating my magazine and as I made each page of my final product, I took these answers into consideration.
-For question 1, as the highest percentage of my audience said they would rather contact my magazine through social media websites, I will include an opportunity for this on my contents page where they can contact my magazine's twitter and Facebook.
-Moreover for question 2 most of my audience said they use twitter over any other social media website therefore I will definitely include my own magazine's twitter account in the magazine - this way my readers can contact the magazine by tweeting the account. As Facebook was the second most popular answer I will also have my own Facebook page for my magazine so my magazine can reach a wider audience.
-In question 3 it was clear to see that most of my audience would like to see features on the contents page so I made a heading for features as well as making one for 'regulars' and 'on the cover'. No one wanted to see reviews therefore I didn't add a 'reviews' heading and instead of making one for 'news', I did one for 'on the cover' as this was a much more popular heading to see on the contents pages in typical music magazines.
-For the forth question as 70% wanted a more detailed article for the artist in the main feature, I went ahead with this idea instead of clear questions and answers. I feel my audience choose this option as they are more grown up (in their late teenage years and early 20's) so a clear question and answer interview would be too simple and boring to read.
-Again, getting involved via twitter and Facebook came out as the more popular choices so I will obviously include both of these social medias within my magazine.
-Even though in question 6 the responses were more spread out, the most popular choice was to have a list of bands/artist that will appear inside therefore I made this the main sell line on my cover. I also did include a list (top 10 tracks of 2013) and a competition as I sill feel these would attract my type of audience.
-At this point I am still unsure about my magazine's name however the most popular choice of name in question 7 was a clever pun so if I can think of one that would be suitable for my indie genre magazine then I will use it. If not I will use a word that links to the indie genre such as 'Alternative'.
-In question 8 the responses show that my audience would like to win festivals tickets in competitions therefore for my competition sell line on the cover, the prize will be tickets to reading as this is a very popular festival.
-For question 9, my audience would rather see 2-5 photos appear on the feature. Originally I stuck to this idea however for my last double page I thought it looked better to include around 5 pictures of my artists at the top of the pages in different effects. Therefore, overall I have included 7 images of my artist across the feature (only 1 on each other double page spread) - still trying to keep it quite simple for my readers.
-For the last question 100% said they would rather read a more detailed article about the artist's lifestyle as well as their music therefore I included both in my main feature article.

Proposal Feedback

This is my proposal feedback I received from a fellow student. By gaining feedback from others, I can see on the ways I can improve my work and look at this for future reference. It is also good to receive opinions from other media students as they know about the topic and will be able to give you useful and relevant information.

Magazine Key Concepts

br />
This post explains the typical audience of music magazines and the reason they still read them today, the representation of a magazine - what they look like, the institution of magazines (e.g. how they earn their money) and the codes and conventions of typical music magazines.

In terms of the audience, it is clear to see that magazines are still successful in the way they attract and please their readers through their circulation and readership figures (Q has a circulation of 52,781 and a readership of 377,00). Personally, I read magazines because I find it is easy to find out information/news this way as it has already been presented for you in an easy format to read - including all vital points. Moreover, I find music magazines obviously more accessible than the internet because you can read them at any time, no matter where you are. In my opinion, these are some of the important points about the type of people who read magazines and of course, music fans will enjoy reading music magazines for the content.

From my point of view, the representation of a magazine is clearly important when attracting the right target audience. This makes it easier for consumers to find the right product for them and as I mentioned before, this will help their circulation and readership.

I think the best way a magazine can earn money is by promoting itself and also from the adverts shown in the magazine. By a magazine promoting and advertising it through different platforms such as it's own website and social media sites, more people will know and find out about it and these can lead to more sales.

The codes and conventions of a magazine are quite self explanatory - I think a magazine that  includes most, if not all of the ones I listed on the PowerPoint, should be successful as long as the content is relevant and interesting and again, the representation is right. I will also be including most of these in my own magazine.

Audience Survey

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5ZWD6H2

This is the link to my survey that I have created for my target audience to gain results about what they would like to see feature in my music magazine. I have included questions such as how readers would like to contact the magazine, what they would like included in the main article and even the magazine's name.

Audience Profile

My Target Audience:-

My target audience will be mostly females due to the style and content of my magazine however males may also purchase my magazine as the genre of music I include will apply to both genders and there will be bands/artists that have a target audience to both girls and boys. The ages of my target audience will vary from 15-28 ages as there will be aspects of my magazine that include information about concerts and gigs which will appeal to these ages as they are old enough to attend these events however they are not too old to have no interest at all for festivals. My magazine will be targeted at particular groups of people who are into indie and alternative music, for example bands such as ‘Bastille’, ‘Imagine Dragons’ and ‘Of Monsters And Men’. Some of their general hobbies may include socialising with friends (for example going to parties), shopping and attending certain music events as well as listening to music at home on their stereo or iPod. As NME includes what particular shops their readers attend in their own audience profile, I also thought it was necessary to include this information in my own. Therefore the type of stores my readers typically shop at will be 'Topshop', 'Urban Outfitters' and 'All Saints'.

Typical User:-

Katie is your typical blonde teenager. She is 17, attends college and is very into her music. She cares passionately about the music industry and enjoys hanging out with mates, going to local gigs and purchasing the lastest music via itunes or at her local music store. Her typical daily routine consists of getting up early each morning to do her hair and make-up, going to college and socialising before heading home where she will sometimes read, write, listen to music or work on her coursework. At the weekends, she spends most of her time catching up with her mates rather than staying at home watching TV. She is also has a part time job where the money she earns will go towards tickets for concerts and festivals as well as fashion. Katie's second passion is her clothes as she enjoys keeping up with the latest trends and also finds this a way of expressing her individual style. She likes to be a bit 'out there' and also has a wide variety of favourite music. She enjoys listening to urban/indie music as well as rock songs and upcoming bands also interest her as she loves hearing about new artists before anyone else.

Facts & Statistics:-

-The average age of my target audience will be 22 (young adults who still enjoy taking part in social events).
-Around 40% of my target audience will still be in some form of education such as college or university while the other 60% will already have a job.
-Again I would say 65% or target audience will be females, the other 35% males (keeping the target audience quite even).
